BIRTH AND CHILDHOOD

Nirmala Salve was born on March 21, 1923. Her parents were Prasad and Cornelia Salve. They were a Christian family. They lived in Chhindvara, India.

Nirmala’s parents played an important role in India’s independence movement. The British had ruled India for nearly 200 years.

As a child, Nirmala Salve lived with her parents in the ashram of Mahatma Gandhi. He saw the wisdom in her and asked her advice on spiritual matters. He called her Nepali.
